Gmail for Android has the ability to apply search filters that will help users find specific emails. The new feature will allow users to quickly and easily filter email search results on their mobile devices. Search filters should appear below the search box in the Gmail app. The filter can be a name or a specific period. When searching for emails by sender, users can choose from a list of suggested senders or search for emails from multiple senders. In addition, the internet giant has also added new settings to the Google app on Android, which allows the option of personalized search results to be controlled.
Google announced the addition of the improved search feature to Gmail for Android via a blog post. Android device users can use this feature by tapping the search icon in the search box of the app. To search faster, Gmail will suggest search terms based on information from users’ Gmail accounts, such as contacts, tags, or messages. The results will include all messages except those in spam or the trash.
The new feature corresponds to the update to the dedicated Gmail widget for iOS received last year. Gmail’s improved search functionality for Android began rolling out on Monday, September 20 and will be fully operational by the end of October. It will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers.
In another development, the Google Android app receives an update to control personalized search results. It will allow users to disable or enable the “personalized search results” option through the app, which allows them to control whether Google can use their account data to display personalized results. Features of this option include:
- Autocomplete predictions that include search predictions based on search history.
- Personal responses like location, reminders and reservations.
- Recommendations based on Google activity like what to watch, where to travel, where to eat, etc.
If a user wishes to avoid seeing personalized search results, the features listed above will not be available to them. Google allows you to turn off the settings by pressing Settings> Personal results on the Google app home page. The addition of the new feature to the Google Android app was first spotted by 9to5Google
